The Developer with a Conscience

The Developer with a Conscience

egg Homes, a developer based in Hincaster, Cumbria is changing the face of the sustainable building sector and setting an industry-wide precedent for responsible, community-focused construction.

Spearheaded by a triumvirate of professionals specialising in the construction sector – Chris Nelson, Ashley Reece and Matthew Eves

– egg Homes’ first project, Viver Green, launched in late 2015 and has seen exceptional sales to date to both local and national investors.

The 19 open market and 3 affordable units comprise the total building stock, all of which are designed and finished to exceptional standards featuring innovative sustainable features and community benefits.

All are built using Amvic Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF) consisting of high-density polystyrene panels with a solid concrete core. This is the strongest insulating concrete framework currently on the market which also provides remarkable thermal and sound insulation, fire safety, thermal mass and durability for the property’s lifetime.

Other features of note are triple-glazed aluminium windows and doors, Mitsubishi air source heat pumps, underfloor heating on ground and upper floors, solar panels, solid upper floor construction and intelligent controls as well as balconies and landscaped front and rear gardens.

Expected average electricity costs are 71p per day, a 75% improvement on a standard house and all will have a SAP rating of ‘A’. All properties are also being assessed under the Home Quality Mark (HQM); a Mark of excellence created by the BRE, bestowed on new build homes to give people the confidence that their properties are well-designed, well-built and cost-effective to run.

Community enhancement and awareness is integral to the egg Homes development philosophy and a dedicated community orchard and traditional hay meadow are key components of Viver Green. The orchard will be utilised by local charity ‘Growing Well’, residents of the development, as well as the local community whilst the meadow will be for locals and residents to enjoy.

The egg Homes team comprises experienced and passionate architects, landscape designers, energy consultants and a host of other specialists who have collectively worked to make Viver Green the exceptional development it is today.
